As students of the gymnasium Münchenstein we were given the opportunity to participate in an intensive history course, aiming to produce an MP3 audio guide for the city of Basel in two languages. The first part of the course mainly consisted of acquiring basic historical background knowledge of the city of Basel in order to meet the requirements for a successful production. The second part was devoted to an enhancement of our knowledge and to the production of two guides. Those provide an addition to the ones made in 2009 (click here to view the old website). Our goal was to create two exceptional tours in order to widen the spectrum of already existing guides.

The hardest job of our project was undoubtedly recording the audio files. First the team worked out a concept for the coordination of music, soundeffects and speaker, and afterwards they realized it. It took a long time to record and cut the audio files, to add several soundeffects, master it and normalize the audio levels of the finished tracks, but finally, the Tram Guide and the Criminal Guide were ready for downloading.

As we provide our guide in two languages (German as well as English), it was the task of the translators to create an English version of the guide.

This team's task was to edit all of the  produced guide texts, including correcting and changing them if necessary. This process was very important to achieve solid materials, in order to successfully continue with our production.

In order to direct the public's attention to our guides, the Media & Website Team had to drum up as much support as possible. Introducing the guides to a broad audience with the help of newspaper articles and radio and television reports, as well as finding sponsors for our project were our main points of focus.
To us it was very important to design a new website not only to enable visitors to download our guides but also to provide additional interesting information about our project. It was a very time consuming process requiring a lot of technical skills and a good eye for design. Thus we are glad to now have finished our website successfully with our two guides being available and ready for download (for everyone).
